The County Government of Nakuru recently hosted the Nakuru County Track and Field Championships 2024 at Njoro Boys High School Grounds in collaboration with Athletics Kenya (AK). The event was a crucial stepping stone for athletes gearing up for the South Rift Region Competitions in Kabarak the following week.
Athletes from both genders hailing from the eleven sub-counties in Nakuru County showcased their prowess in races ranging from 100 meters to 10,000 meters. Additionally, they competed in field events such as high jump, long jump, discus, shot put, triple jump, and javelin.
The top two performers in each discipline earned the honour of representing Nakuru County in the upcoming regional competition.
Mr Jepta Rono the AK Public Relations Officer, expressed gratitude towards Governor Susan Kihika for her unwavering support of the county’s athletes.
County Chief Officer for Youth, Sports, Talent, and Resource Mobilization Pastor Alex Maina, presented donations on behalf of Governor Kihika, reaffirming the county’s commitment to nurturing athletic talent. Governor Kihika pledged to recognize and celebrate athletes who bring honour to Nakuru County in African and World Championships, with plans to commend ten athletes who have previously elevated the county’s reputation in past competitions.
